Golf After 50-Playing Without Pain

Golf After 50

It seemed as if 53-year-old professional golfer Greg Norman had somehow turned back the clock when he was in contention at this year’s British Open, leading after 54 holes.  Although he did not win, Norman proved that a man his age could still compete against the best players in the world.

Norman, who has kept himself in phenomenal shape, was the world’s number one player for 331 weeks during a stretch in the 80’s and 90’s.
So his performance at the British Open may not have been out of the realm of possibility, but still an astonishing accomplishment considering he would have been the oldest champion by 5 years.  Norman’s performance is now inspiring “50 somethings” all over the world to get out and play golf.

Even if you haven’t kept yourself in tiptop shape like Greg Norman and you are over 50, there are still things you can do to reverse the effects of aging.  A new book, Golf After 50-Playing Without Pain, edited by Dr. Terry Hensle, assembles advice from 25 of the most recognizable physicians and surgeons in the United States to help golfers over the age of 50 play better and without pain.

This is a unique manual in the fact that golfers over 50 experience the game differently than younger golfers.  Golfers over 50 may be playing a different game than they were when they were 25; their body reacts differently to injuries, they are not as flexible and may have lost strength and power due to aging.

In Golf Over 50, a different expert writes each chapter and they tackle age related issues such as back pain, golf after surgery, eye care and anti-aging.

The book does not cover golf swing instruction or contain advice from golf professionals, but most of the experts are avid golfers and all address issues related to golf.

Although the book is geared toward golfers and golf related injuries, it is an excellent manual for anyone who wants to be active and healthy over the age of 50.
